| I couldnt say about the FX5200 with 256mb but I've got the FX5900 with 256mb on it with an Athlon 2600 and it runs anything you can throw at it with everything full up so the FX5200 should be quite good as well

| I am not sure how much a FX 5900 cost or where to get it but I know this much... I am running FS2004 on a FX 5600 with 256 meg of ram... 2.1 AMD Processer... 1 Gig of Mem... and a Sound Blaster Audigy... and the game runs extremely well. I know the FX 5600 goes for about $160.00 but if the other one is close in price... get it for it will have better specs and the game will run smoother, of this I am sure. Has anyone ran it thru the new GeForce 6800 Ultra???

If I were to buy a PNY Verto GeForce4 MX 4000 64MB DDR PCI Graphics Card would I have to buy additional ram and hard drive space if my hard drive space is low and I have 256MB of ram or it dosen't realy matter for a graphic card??
PS: No I am not running a GeForce 6800 Ultra as you can tell lol

I was using the Pny Verto GeForce MX 4000 DDR PCI and gave it to my brother in law. It ran the game but just didn't have the power to give you all the effects you can get by getting a high end card. As far as Hard Drive space... when you are low... yes it does have a tendancy to reduce your performance of your computer. Access times become longer and longer. More memory... well... the more the better... if you are running Windows XP... get as much as your board will handle. I was running the game under 512 meg with the GeForce MX 4000 DDR PCI with a 1.2 AMD Athlon... and a 5200 RPM Fujitsu hard drive. It ran ok... but the water looked TERRIBLE!!! and I mean TERRIBLE!!! Bridges that were cable hung were SOLID and you could not see thru the cables to the other side! Decided to overhaul the entire system for I love flight sims and built the system in my previous post... and the game screams! The only time I seem to get jer video is when I am in a massive populated place. ( London with FULL GRAPHICS! ) Even still it runs well and looks really good. See my uploaded picture below and see for yourself! Hope this helps some... if you need more info or help... just let me know!

Hi,i have a geforce 5700LE 256mb, p4 2.8ghz, 1024mb pc2100, and i cannot run everything on full. infact medium high is the best i can hope for. not sure whether this is card fault or a crappy motherboard (msi6579).
8/12 fps everything maxed,PMDG 737-600 KORD, fair weather, 50% traffic
18/30 fps med/high.PMDG 737-600 KORD, fair weather, 50% traffic
i find the weather themes cripple my system, oh and by the way my 5700 is slightly overclocked!!

thats the same card that i have together with an amd athlon 2600 and 512 MB.
When i am close to any big city...the frames drop to about 15 or less in mid air or higfh alt it runs well with everything maxed ...but when landing and especially landing an airport with add on cenery the frames drop to less than 10 frames.....
I really want to upgrade the card--...as I want maxed out graphics during low altitude.
Sometimes if you switch to chase view it takes a few seconds for the plane textures to load..

I tried out a FX5200 w/128 ram on Saturday as a test and it ran great!!! Good thing I could return it though. Love London Drugs.
The card took everything I could throw at it! But then again I'm runnning:
Intel P4 3.4 LGA775
ASUS P5AD2 Mobo
4GB DDR Ram
120GB HD (programs)
The card doesn't really matter much, but the processor does. FS is processor dependent. If you are planning on getting the FX5200 w/256 then I'd say you would be fine. At least you know you can upgrade to a higher system and it will still work. The card I tested cost $89CAD. Not bad. Loaded up fine, drivers (Nvidia) worked great and it didn't even falter once. Very stable unit. I'd recommend the 256 version as it has it's own fan and a better processor. Give it a shot, if you can, try and get a return/exchange policy. Can't go wrong with that!

Thanks Exxman for the credit. Below is a screen shot from my computer of Exxman's latest project. Maybe the picture will help to give you some ideas of what different video cards do. This is thru a GeForce 5600 FX 256 meg.
Also... keep an eye out for this beautiful bird! She is a dream to fly but has lots of surprises in store for ya. Should be on the board by tomorrow according to Exxman. I will say this... this plane is a must have for your fleet!

| As to the mobo issue, I've been through several. My current system is on an ASUS with 800mhz bus speed, P4-3ghz, 1gig RAM with an ATI Radeon 9600xt 128. With the exception of extremely dense scenery areas, my fps hits the wall at 30-36 with frames limited to 36, on unlimited, it will average 30-80. The biggest improvement came with reducing texture sizes and limiting 3d clouds percentage and draw distances. Also, used ATI-Tool utility to push the clock a bit. The higher the card model number is does not always translate into better performance, you have to check the intended application/output features. I find that my 9600xt knocks the hat off 9800pro in most instances. Like a hot rod, it's about the system, the combination of components and their tune, not any one piece of chrome or billet. Keeping that in mind, make sure you have sufficient bus speed to allow the performance of your components to be realized, after all, the baddest fuel pump in the world cant make the baddest engine in the world run very well if it's trying to feed through a fuel line the size of a drinking straw.....get it?

Don't be fooled by the FX5200's 256 mb of ram, it's still a a 128 bit card, making it quite inferior to the other 128 meg 256 bit cards.
I highly reccomend NOT buying the FX5200 it is very subpar. Go for a Radeon 9800, or hell even get a Geforce 4 Ti4600, that will do better.
