Ok guys, where in the hell can you find Photoshop for less than $500.00?
Obviously I'd like to find it much cheaper than that, but even $500 seems to be the low end of what I've found so far.
I have a hard time believing that all of these 14 and 15 year olds who are attempting to paint A/C actually purchased their own copies of this program, let alone talked their parents into buying it for them, at the prices I've seen.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

It is possible to use some rather fine freeware editors as well. One of these is Pixia, another is Photoplus from Serif. Some folks use Gimp, which is an open-source effort that works pretty good. In any case, you will need to have DXTbmp for converting the extended textures used in FS. If you cruise the FS folder with windows picture and fax viewer, you will find a large number of the textures are not extended and therefore directly editable without DXTbmp. If you want to avoid opening FS each time to view your changes (or leave it open and switch back and forth from another plane to see your update), you can use the demo version of FSRepaint, because the demo does not save changes you dont have to worry about messing up. That limiting feature also makes it possible to practice some of your ideas before going to the trouble of highly detailed image editing.
some people already know this, and some people dont....there it is |

Thanks guys...
I've been using DXTBMP with PSP8 for several years now and have tried all of the other freeware/shareware products, I just wanted to give Photoshop a try...until I saw the price.
I've exhausted all of my tricks to get the same (or near same) output with PSP that you can get with Photoshop.
HEY SKIPPERDAN...I got your PM...I certainly wouldn't mind riding backseat to that girl. |

Rick:
If you take another look at the picture, you will see that there is a long line waiting to ride backseat to her. You will have to go to the end of the line.

Actually, the line was to meet R. L. Ermey who is the host for MAIL CALL show that appears every week on the History Channel. He also appeared as the Drill Instructor in the movie "Full Medal Jacket". I was fortunate enough to get to the show early and I was third in line. I have a nice picture of the two of us.

Sorry for the late replies for this Rick.
But alot of people don't have the CS or CS2. Alot of them do have the 6.0 and 7.0. If you can find it on EBAY or simular sites, heres a couple tips.
Stay away from the 7.0. Whatever they did, or the brainchild behind the 7.0, should be buried along with it. You will need a couple plug ins to paint a/c., as well as the update.
If you can find it. Get the 6.0, and then the update. It swallows the 7.0 in every aspect.
I use both the 6.0.1 and the CS2. CS2 is on my MAC system. Both work great. I tried PSP 7 (?), and it didn't bide too well for me. As GS mentioned a few freeware ones, I can't say good or bad about any of them. Just PSP.
Hope that helps alittle. But I don't think 14-15's have CS2 unless the parents got it for themselves. I doubt most of them can use it as intended.

Thanks RD... I tried ebay a few times, guess I'll keep trying there.
Skip, I met R. Lee Ermey in Iraq in 2003. I was in the Army and attached to the Marine Corps 2nd MEB at the time. Also got to meet LT. Dan (Gary Sinise, Forrest Gump) on that trip. |

I know Gunney Ermey personnaly. He did a show at 29 Palms, CA, about the nuclear capabilites of the 155mm Self Propelled Howitzers ( M109 ) that I was the Nuke T/A on.
Did you know that he retired from the Marine Corps as a Staff Sgt ?? He got his Gunney promotion as an Honorable promotion for his show and having the "Semper Fidelis" of the Marine Corps. |
