Hi everyone,

I would like to add helicopters to my AI traffic. Is this achieved in the same way as regular aircraft. I do not seem to be able to get ai helicopter traffic or actually see the helicopters on the ground prior to departure.

What am I doing wrong!! Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Yes you can add AI Choppers. If you have TTools, then just add them to the aircraft.txt. Then make some flightplans for them. If you don't have TTools, then get it (here), read it, print it out, and read it again.

Also, becareful with your choppers. Make sure they are AI. If not, and you have alot of them, it will drop FS9 to a crawl.

Also.....AI helicopters have a couple of tweaks to their .air and .cfg files to give them proper AI behavior. You cannot get a helicopter to take off or land vertically or hover as AI. Here is an example to check out. There are more at Hovercontrol.com.

alindsay66,

I have the same problem-- not getting helo-AI to show.

I have used TTools and successfully can get any aircraft to show up, EXCEPT helicopters.

ANY-ONE-- what .CFG changes & .AIR files need to modified for helo AI traffic???

Sincerely,

P47Ace

AI helos is a completely different ball game guys, its another set of rules.

on this page,
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=ai+helicopters&CatID=root&Sort=Name&ScanMode=0&Page=3
look for AI helicopters 01 etc download those and set it up as it says in the reames to get an idea of heli ai, the you can use the models that come with the sets in your ai, or i you looking fra special model, i may be able to convert it for you......

The trick is that they use single GA prop .air files with the speeds modified since there is no actual AI helo .air file. So one of the other drawbacks is that they taxi and hold. So, you wouldnt be able to get them to land on top of a building unless you did the invisible runway thing using afcad.

well, the kits a gave a link to give a pretty good descripion but, basically, to get even asime realistic flight dynamic you must use a special "Helicopter" .air file, now most "ai" helicopters arent ai they are formost flyable and have been converted into ai by ajusting serveral key elements, those are teh .air files and the .cfg file. nwo most"ai" converted helicopters use a ai air file and cfg that is derived frm the cfg and air files called
stemme_as_helicopter_2
now thes have every fast acceleration upto about 60-80 knots and so the take of distance is only a coupla 100m , this is the best repliaction of helicopter dynamics unless you are using a PURPOSE built ai helicopter, when normally the ai is made from scratch etc and give a far more realistic flight dyanics, but if you try to use the fde and air file in another helicopter it may produce uneanted side affects, like plane starts wobbbling around on short final, un realistic take off ranges etc, this is because you MUST edit then .air file and the Aircraft.cfg changing te weight and balance sections, the contact points, the light sections and the [fltsim] section.
so then hopefully you will have a semi realistic flight dynamic, but using the flight dynamic tht cam with it (if it isnt a dedicated ai heli) the ;plane will dissapear on start up!!!

Regards

Duncan
