How do you know which star do use for an airport?
That confuses me and I have to go through several before I finally figure out which is best. |

I certainly wouldn't want to put myself in the position of telling you what to do....seeing as I am a relative novice at this meinself. However, I'm perfectly willing to tell you what I do in that circumstance. I go to simroutes.com and look up the dep and arr airports and then see what is the "preferred" route. I check this at flightaware.com to see what people in the "real" world are actually flying. These two sites will tell you what STARs to use.....SIDs too....ohboy!! Then, all you have to do is to get yourself some kind of gizmo that makes good flight plans (FS9 steenks for that because in 2004, a lot of places hadn't been invented yet), and you are all set to conquer the known world....and Texas!

Hi Again Blackalpha,
If you approach the airport from the west, you will be cleared for a STAR that uses VORs or NDBs on the west of the airport. An ATC will never take you PAST the airport and then bring you back again. Remember that you will always use the runway that will allow you to land into the wind. You can tune into the ATIS to get the active runway before hand.

| i hate to ask this question, but do you have FSNavigator?? (www.fsnavigator.com) if you do you can create flight plans in the NAV and then tell your plane to fly the flight plan and also turn on the auto pilot and you just sit back from takeoff up until the landing when you shut off your AP / "fly flightpan" and you touch it down nice and easy. if you want more help on how to set up your NAV after you get it, PM ME and we will get together and work on it, it is very very very simple. This goes for anyone else that wants some help with FSNAVIGATOR. |

For my ATC sessions when I have to give SID's or STAR's, a favorite is AirNav.
AirNav has all US towered airports and can give you all available SID and STAR charts.
