| i'm still stuck with 02.. but assuming its the same as 04, put the aircraft folder in the aircraft sub folder of your main fs04 folder. Also, typically with downloaded aircraft there are instructions on where to put what and so on... i'd read that first. |

Ok I'll walk you through it, it's quite easy.
once you've downloaded your zipped up file of choice, go to where you downloaded it to and un zip it.
once you've un zipped it you'll have a folder with the downloaded file's inside.
what you need to do is move the entire contents of the folder uasually the same name as your download, with the folders called model, texture, sound and panel inside, to your aircraft folder thats in your FS2004 directory. there should be some other files in the folder too these need to be moved as well.
sometimes there may be extra folders inside it like gauges or effects, there is uasually a read me that should tell you where these go but uasually the contents of these just need to be copied into the same named folder in your FS2004 directory.
your panel folders should be left exactly where they are.
to see what should be in an aircraft folder have a look at the standard one's that come with FS2004 in your FS2004/aircraft directory they should give you an idea of how things should look.
I Hope That was Helpful to you. |

You already receive some excellent advise. I have just one small suggestion which has been a big help to me.
Create several folders on your computer.
Level One folder is called DOWNLOADS
Level two folders are called FLIGHT SIMULATOR, etc, etc, etc.
Level three folders under FLIGHT SIMULATOR are called AIRCRAFT, EFFECTS, AIRPORTS, SCENERY, TEXTURE, etc.
Level four folder under each of the above is called 1-INSTALLED and 2-NOT INSTALLED.
I created the level four folders so that I can keep track of which aircraft and other things I still have installed in my system. Because of my impatients, I often download an aircraft, play with it for a couple of days and then uninstall in. Yes, I am worse than a little kid with Christmas toys--I get tired of them after a few days and want to move onto something new. |

Good stuff so far ndeed,
I also have folder called HANGER, for planes that I don't want to delete, but don't want loaded at run time just now. Once you get a sizable collection of planes, FS2004 ( or any other version) can take a while to load.
I swap planes from HANGER to AIRCRAFT and back, keeping the available fleet in AIRCRAFT about the same size, bigger than the when FS was new, but not unwieldy.
P.S.
DONT DELETE A PLANE IF IT IS USED IN YOR DEFAULT FLIGHT! |
