Goes without saying Steve, without people like you around, doing what you do, and your expertise, makes this site what it is. "G" and all the Mods, plus yourself, makes this the Forum/Site the must to be a member of.

When I show my friends FS9 & FSX running, and then they see the Tomcat, their jaws drop, until they see these things, they had no idea what can be achieved.

So, from o'l timer to another, it would be kinda nice to see you stick around for a long time yet.

What the hell would I do if you went, where would I take my F-14 for it's first service. (and oil change) Laughing

OOPS!
I did everything according to the instructions with autotoload and 2nd time of striking up most things appeared to be OK. Agreed to trusted software prompts etc etc.
Spent loads of hours getting the hang of the thing- great fun then problems.
1. I noticed that there are no options on the inst panel for windows 08/09 &10- COP Ctrl Pnl./ IFLOLS & posn display .
The COP3 folder is definitely there in the gauges folder with all the files.and Concorde.gau in the gauges folder too.
Then more disasters, as I read all the docs I wondered if the FSUICP thingamee was not installed properly so I tried a reinstall- (not realising that I had the F14 selected in the active window on FSX.)
Anyway I got an error msg saying cldnt install cos a file was in use so thought no further of it.
2. Now problem is that FSX thinks I am running the demo version, not the deluxe I legally have installed. So after about 30 mins flying I get switched off.
Sorry to bother you all but the F14 is so s*** hot I have to sort this to fully enjoy.
PS I have some Abacus Flight deck planes from FS9 in the aircraft folders but did not fully reinstall FDeck when I got FSX could there be other COP3 knocking around?

I have 5 min,

DUMP ABACUS! Does it even SAY FSX? NO, Get it out, all planes too.

NO other cop3 exists except in my BIRD, I EVEN INSTALLED FOR YOU!. You must read. NEVER MESS with modules unless you know c++.

1 IT works fine don't tinker! You tinkered! Now it is broke.

2. The window titles for the panel options for #8 etc for cop cntl are INVISIBLE. They are XML'd that way. YOU TINJKERED! Now the commands in the XML sheet are whacked. Need yo start over, reinstall.

3 Nothing wrong with plane, FSUIPC works fine if YOU READ Pete's docs's

4. All other problems are YOUR FAULT, NOT Rob, the best dam XML man in the world, bar none, or us, the development team.

5. These problems arose out of your TINKERING!

6. I, YEAH ME! Made this setup SO easy, So fast, only someone who likes to tinker will have problems. or is NOT even READY FOR FSX!

7. WE ARE NOT STUPID DEVELOPERS!!

8. WE TEST ALL THINGS! 2x.

9. Now we add the most difficult & expensive test known to man;

THE TINKERTOY TEST!

AFTER 92,375+ VERIFIABLE downloads of this bird since 3/30:
No problem nas been more pervasive than TINKERING!

You should have kept flying it when it was working!

To that end I cannot say but one thing, RELOAD. OR delete.

Do us developers a favor, IF you have to tinker, PLEASE, build a plane yourself called MY TINKERTOY!

I am not feeling bad for what I told you.

At our age, WE ALL KNOW NOT to Fix something that is working fine.

Sorry you have to learn the hard way.

A good morning Judge Hinson from the member now forever to be known as "Tinkerman"
Hi Steve,
On joining this forum I took time to read some historical posts and it is obvious that you are probably the most respected member of this forum and that despite a serious health scare in the past you are now back on form and firing on all guns!
So only fair then to say just a little about myself before addressing your helpful but blistering response.
I have done some serious programming in the 90's albeit in a now archaic language called 'Clipper'. I must have been half decent to justify the money I made! I also had some limited experience of C++, BUT as a programmer I have respect for other peoples' work, and enough as such to know when to leave well alone, unless following a specific read.me doc with full instructions on altering cfg files.
So my defence your honour is as follows:-
re Abacus purchased for FS9 and enjoyed to a limited extent, but I don't think I have been there since in FSX as I didnt really enjoy the aircraft on offer , but I did at least manage a few succesful landings on the deck
So not bothered so will accept advice and delete.
On Counts 1 to 6 - I plead NOT guilty
Albeit on 3 plead guilty to stupid attempt to reinstall FSUICP when F14 was up on screen, so switched off everything and re re installed FSUICP - no problems.
On counts 7 & 8 - I agree, not good practice to turn out untested stuff, it just gives rise to lots of emails and moans.
On count 9- as I have plenty of time in my retirement I may catch up on C++ and have a dabble at some sort of aircraft, indeed on your recommendation , if I succeed in producing the model "Tinkertoy" you will be the first person I ask to comment on my efforts.
In summing up for the judge and jury:-
Re "tinkering" accusation, I never actually touched or modified anything.
I just looked around to see what was where and re #8 etc as I could not find any key to instigate these options.- just established that they were all in the folder COP3 and that this was duly in the gauges folder-where YOUR clever autotoload put it.
Re -How does one call up the #8,9 & 10 INVISIBLE panel options? Duh- guilty this time- re read the rcbco-30 doc and saw how to do this
Still happy to have a go at reinstalling from scratch, even re-downloading in case my wireless system hiccuped mid session, but I think your add-on is and always was working great .
So I plead not guilty on all counts, but still have 1 remaining question-
1. Any reason why FSX should revert to thinking that I am using the demo version, if no answers then I suppose that will have to re-install FSX again and supposedly SP1 as well.
Last thing, the static test area on St Maarten is great except that some local on the island built a bl*** hut right on the end of the runway 121 and as suggested coming in low ref the VASI assist ,I must have scared the living daylights out of the occupants when I took the roof off first approach.!
Still love your efforts , great fun to fly just a few hiccups- all obviously MY fault.
Chris

fsuipc thanks it does work if not its av, firewall not fully open , internet security zones to ihjt privacy sets to high, pop ups blocking loopback intercept of simconnect proggie

as for cntrl panel
picture speaks million words, go to spot view when start, resize this gauge. no. 1 light on left is to turn on/off ifloes gau. #2 is blinking on dck, READY GOOD ZONE, active, #3 is for tailhook, click on these, they work at 7 miles out. keep speed >120<200.

so here it where i put this one gauge when resized, note in panel.cfg, in bottom , in window08,etc, gauge visiblity says =0 FALsE , meaning invisible on start up till enabled . drag to good view location, #4 spot on gau. no lites green. i put it to see with main panel showing.

Hi Steve,
Yes gauge got hidden behind menu bar so once I got hold of it and repositioned and resized we wuz away with the birds.
Yes 20-30 mins it times out so I think I will reinstall FSX when I have a momentito.
Sorry to hear you are still struggling, I had a short spell in Lagos, Nigeria and I think if it had been much longer I would be having liver problems now.
I still think I have loads to learn so will maintain my cub scout name of "Tinkerman Potts" for now. I used to be called P**s Pot at school so this is a step up.
Hasta Luego from very sunny Spain.
Chris
PS Couldnt find your F14dmesh.zip at Simviation so presume a newer zip is around, the Waikato sounds OK, not sure where to go now I have dumped Abacus.

Did you have the demo installed at one time? Did you uninstall it and clean your drive before installing the full FSX? There are several support articles at Microsoft dealing with some of the FSX install/reinstall issues.

Hi groundsquirrel
Yes I did, so thanks I will look to see if any Demo stuff is left over and search for MS help .
Chris
PS How can I drop some armaments on that b***y squatter at the end of the runway 121 @ TFFG. His roof keeps getting in my way!!! or is it just me being a tad too low on finals.

to remove tent, RAISE setting for mesh from 38 to 156m.

At 76m LOD 9 it shows up, SAME at LOD 10+ it is seen as well as cars.

JUST use slider for terrain intensity, move to left to 156.

Grant you, it will make allot of things not as detailed, your choice.

You can clear it on final @ 125-130 knots, Full Flaps.

JUST ENSURE wheels down BEFORE threshhold marks and cables

Regards
Steve
