I have downloaded about 7 or 8 different freeware replacement water textures for FS9 over time and ended up getting rid of most of them for some reason or another. The effects were too sparkly, or the light reflections were too pronounced when you flew in spot view, or they looked unnatural somehow. I finally found a freeware package that I like and that doesn't seem to hurt my already pathetic framerate too much. It's called xtrawater and the surface effects are amazing, the ripples and reflections work very well, and the colours are all amazing. Just a touch too much purple tinge to the water at times, but a really great free water set. I'm sure I picked it up in Simviation's FS9 scenery download section, I'll have a look around later to see if I can pinpoint the page. I have author's names too if anyone would like to try it out and can't find it just searching with just the file name.
Do you have a favourite water texture & effect set, do you live with default (Ughh..), do you have comments on a payware package that you've tried?
EDIT: Oh yeah, the reason I thought of this thread topic was due to the really nice water textures Cat1 has in his first flightsim video. What are they Cat1?

| Everyone has different tastes. I used to like "Waterzone." But now I use the payware called Flight Environment by Flight1 Software |

| At first I used FS Water from Flight1, but found that the free Xtra water was many times better (for my taste). That's what I've been using since then. |

I don't remember which of many I have tried. But I do know I have 3 different dl's, that I manipulated, to get the desired water effect I have now.
I'll post up a s/s later on what it looks like.
