Gliding?

Hello again everyone! I took the gliding lessons on FSX and loved them, but when I went to glide in free flight I couldn't get any thermals whatsoever. Even the lift you get when you are flying parallel to the windward side of a mountain wasn't there. I put significant wind in the right direction on...

I felt the same way until i added a little RAM and downloaded the service packs.

I think the service packs from microsoft will fix your ugly taxiways, and my scenery on FSX is better than it ever was on FS9. You just have to tweak a little bit

I don't think I really got an error code. It just said a problem has caused FSX to stop working properly.

And how does one go about building an FSX config file? I noticed that I couldn't find one in the windows search.

Would a totally absent config file give me these problems?

Fatal Error on Startup

When I go to start FSX, I get the blue title screen, then a windows message pops up and tells me that a "fatal error" has occured. Windows tries to restart FSX, but the same thing happens. I didn't make any changes to anything recently. How can I fix this? (the same problem occurred after a restart ...

Also, consider checking the textures folder for a jpeg called "thumbnail"

if there isn't one, find a picture of the plane, drag it into each texture folder, and name it "thumbnails"

if they can't idle for a long time, perhaps you could do what instructors do when their students practice engine failures-
Try "clearing" the engines when you are on a power off approach (run them up to full throttle for a second every 30 seconds or so)

Problems like what? The King Air and C208 Caravan in FSX seem pretty realistic to me, and some of the freeware downloads work pretty well too.

Depending on how particular you are, FSX's turbos are pretty decent.

Performance Charts?

Good news! I just passed my written exam! However...to practice for the flight planning segment of the practical, i need to either download an accurate warrior to match my POH or download performance charts for a default fsx a/c like the skyhawk. Anyone know where I can get accurate performance char...

another way to enhance the lighting in FSX is the airport light environment fix. It takes the halos from the taxiway lights and makes them sharper instead of fuzzy balls

Does Acceleration require an FSX reinstall?

I just got a new hard drive, and I have to install FSX acceleration again. The thing is, I've already had FSX installed for a couple days and have a good bit of settings and airplanes loaded onto it. Can I install acceleration without having to uninstall FSX? Or will I have to redo all of those sett...

I know that someone uploaded the default FS2004 C182 with some compatibility edits for FSX. I saw it somewhere recently. But if you're wanting a 182, Carenado's model is the way to go, 110%. Definitely. I just bought one. But for free, there are a bunch of edits for fsx on www.simviation.com search...

As TF says, its kinda risky-taking files out that the simulator installs (and might need), but I have done it in the past with no problems.

If you absolutely have to, back up your files!

If you fly with the virtual cockpit alot (and can't live without it...like me) then I'd recommend FSX. Microsoft definitely mastered the VC with FSX....but if your computer cant handle it, like mel said, fs9 for the win!

I picked up a box of Xplane 9- it looked pretty good. Is it worth getting?

My pc (windows vista) can handle FSX at an average level, and I have an X52. Should I spend the money? It sounds interesting, but if it isn't much different from FSX then I probably won't do it.

Any thoughts?
