Still plugging away on this big girl. (Wow, that sounds almost obscene...I like it. 8O  ) Reworked the console thang for the fairly low-detail cockpit, got the pilot textures under control, and I have some cloning and placing to do in there to wrap it up. Slow going over the holidays, for some ...

Don't know about the DLL, but I can't see how the .cfg file would do it. My first thought would involve a ton of work...actually animating the destruction in gmax or FSDS. Maybe triggered with an .XML gauge, or even tied into a key command...tailhook or wingfold or something. Hmmm...what about check...

Well, my textures look like crap so far on this model ....*SHEESH*....all that crap about subtlety and realism - you can barely see the panel lines and plates as things are now, even when I dialed down the specular to zero. Frigg. I do need to make that map bolder and I need to re-do all the maps th...

Yup, go grab 'Pixia', another Freeware image editor. If you don't have Photoshop, Pixia works in layers, and you have an 'eyedropper' tool for easily matching colours.

Stairway to heaven baby! It's just about all in gmax now, ready to assemble, texture and animate. (Exporting nicely so far .) Got rid of all those wheels and had room for stairs and a pilot, etc. Let's see what else I can get away with now, poly-wise. Yes, conceiving and executing this stuff is as m...

LOL, nice to hear guys, THX! :D Well, I just hit the wall with the 'wheeled' landing gear. Crap - even after going lower poly on the rims and paring down a bunch of polys wherever, those assemblies are too costly, replaced with pads now. It's a bit of a shame, but I'm hoping the 'load lightening' wi...

Drat! I got all carried away with the landing gear, thinking everything else was relatively low-poly and I had some room....and when I cloned the gear into 7 sets in gmax - I went over the polygon limit. Again. So I'm paring down and remodeling where I can. Again. First to go were the gun turrets, a...

True dat. I do remember reading about differences in the FSX SDK's regarding materials in gmax. Not sure if it's a texture deal (naming conventions/alpha assignments?) or a different way to create materials themselves, but developers that are 'in the loop' should be doing it right by now....you'd th...

Well I'll take that as a compliment Mel, and a vote of confidence (Yipes 8O ). Now that building the gear parts is out if the way for the most part, I can look at cockpit and entrance treatments, and soon import the whole mess into gmax to see if it will all gel, or if it's just a big pile of kife. ...

Easily 20 hours or so of fartin' around with the assembly, scaling and fitting of two slightly different landing gear sets, and I haven't even animated anything yet, it's just static bits in 'Anim8or'. Struggling with trying to fit decent-sized wheels into the mix. They need to come out of sm...

Hiya Jaeg, thank you so much for the feedback. Well, if it put a smile on your face then it's a success already. The smaller rear window is similar to some older, foreign sporty cars I've seen before, not that I can reference one for example - I'm not a real auto fan. I wonder if it would work if yo...

My apologies Jaeg, between real-world stuff and my modeling obsession, I haven't made time lately to look at this decently. I was thinking about putting a line of Antonov 225 -style wheels coming out of the gun housings on the wingtips, so yeah, that idea may do it. Well, there's not going to be many, if any, animations on a bird like this, so I enjoy planning and building a gearset with animation that might actually work in real life...it's always a fun challenge. When I can't come up with something realistic, then I get fancy.
