Those are some serious lights Mel, I just don't really buy payware stuff at this point in time...too many other things eat up my cash flow constantly, thanks for the heads up though.

It's a bit of a rush for me to actually feel that this project is finished though!!!

The boys have it for some testing fun and maybe some wing art, I'm sort of eagerly awaiting some feedback from my Beta guys....I do remember that RD sometimes likes to make me squirm a little before he gets back to me with thoughts on my stuff!

BUT IT'S DONE!!!!!

I'm still digesting the fact that I'm actually done. Soon I can simply fire up the WASPV and just enjoy booting around in it...rather than flying it for 10 minutes and then saying "Holy crap, I'm supposed to be fixing this or that!!"

Realized earlier that RD and G.S. probably have the effects that I gapped on sending in my .ZIPs. I'm not doing any work on this tonight....I'll catch up with this mess tomorrow morning and send them off, just in case they don't have all the goodies as specified in the .CFG.

I'll have to head back to the beginning of this thread and see when I started this concept aircraft...geez, it seems like it's been a long time in front of this monitor, trying to make something from nothing.
What a buzz, the WASPV actually came to life from pure imagination...and a whole WHACK of hacking around.

Hmmm, now what? Get a life?... or look into the other 8 projects that are buzzing around my brain, or simmering on the back burner, nine-tenths done?!! Ahh, having a life is overrated, I remember having one once.

RD and G.S. - I signed up for overtime on Saturday...so let's shoot for Saturday night for file return and maybe I can get 'er out the door Sunday before noon...waddya think?

HOLY CRAP - IT'S DONE!!!! Did I say that already? Sorry (NOT!)

WOOHOOOO!!!

And hey, not too bad on the 2000 view goal....I just figured people's tolerance level for 'yapping and no product yet' would come in around 2000 views. My tolerance level for this pig was getting pretty thin too folks... BUT IT'S DONE!!!!

Will advise on the time and location(s) once she ships....target: Late next weekend. 8O

Well, I got the link, just as I checked my emails before going to work, 1pm. So I got it, and, dangit, I at least need to see it, and take a short hop from KOMA to KOFF (15 miles max).

I just got home, and checked my emails, and got one from GS. (it's 3:30am now). Long story short, I told him I was surprised there wasn't an effects folder. I sent GS 3 of them I do have. But, for some reason, I don't have the Maelstrom one. Not sure why. I checked my Maelstrom effects, and I don't have any of them. Again, not sure why?????

Now the WASPV. I only flew it for 10-15 minutes. Just to see how it flies. Brother, you NAILED the FDE. I just had to hit the "tailhook" didn't I?? And whoa.....BABY. Send the troops home, cause I have one helluva weapons system on this thing. I can take out Russia, and Venezula, after I'm done with Iraq.

Sorry boss, but I am butt tired. And with the real world thing, I can't have anything for you by Saturday, or even Sunday. Sorry. Thank Mother Nature for that, as well as my job.

I know the minions want it, and when they get it, they will be in total awe of it. But, another week won't hurt anybody either.

I don't where GS stands on it, time wise for his touch, but for me, I can't do it.

I won't be able to really hammer this thing untill Sat night. But my short flight yesterday, impressed me. This is 100 times better than the Maelstrom. And I love the Maelstrom.

OK... Got to go. But, to let you know, you hit a home run.

Initial look see is as RD said...........spot on in all aspects. I probably wont have a texture for you in time so I will release my texture to you as soon as I am done with making a panel and some views for it. It wasnt really a problem 'til I took a good look at the captains table in spot view then I knew that generic panel had to go.

Hey SU37, in my mind this thing is so different and looks and flies so neat that I could probably describe it in detail for a week...and you'd still go "Holy Crap!" once you grabbed it and fired it up. I think I have managed to not reveal too much detail with my screenies so far. You see the shapes and model stuff if you read the whole thread and view the pics, but to actually get 'er on the tarmac and give the animations a go - spread the wings out for takeoff, with the jets rotating around, the canopy closing, and then the gear-legs retracting once you're ten feet up.....suddenly your in a sci fi show or a really cool effects-laden movie sequence, I hope you're going to love it.

Ha ha...I just realized that this weird stuff comes from me partly because I'm a bit of a simidiot when it comes to flying real world aircraft properly...in other words, when most of you are following procedures and setting autopilot stuff and doing things properly for the glideslope, etc, and all the ATC stuff, or a real ILS approach, I'm sort of lost. (Just lazy on the learning curve.) So I make some of my own crazy aircraft and just sink into a world of visual and situational head rushes...I live in a sim world where every take-off and landing would look spot on in an episode of Battlestar Galactica, or Star Wars, etc. I don't need no steenkin' ATC...my flights are sanctioned by an entity that's more secretive and powerful than any Earth government body or institution. ATC and airport security gets a call from the higher-ups and are told to clear the airways and runways for an 'unconventional' aircraft and approach, and are told not to ask questions...right before they are ordered to accommodate the tarping and tucking away of the aircraft immediately after I deplane for security and secrecy reasons. No one fools around, and I often get a free airport lunch and a limo ride...you're a bit of a celebrity when you show up in a flying wasp!
I only talk to ATC if I feel like it, and I usually don't.

RD and G.S. - thank you so much for undertaking anything to do with my latest project, and I appreciate the feedback greatly.
I was getting fairly anxious as I FINALLY wrapped this thing up (could you tell?), and I realize that it's no fair to yap about something for months and then expect people to enhance it in their own special way in a week, while trying to make a living and have a real life. I actually do have a real life too, LOL...and I'm tired as hell until I can unwind on the weekends! So take your time....this is supposed to be fun after all....believe me, the whole point of anything like this is fun and entertainment. It would be pretty cool if I could get it out the door by the weekend after this weekend....how about we shoot for that target and see how it goes. (I can't seem to avoid those anxious moments is all - I keep thinking "Pretty soon no-one is going to be flying FS2004 anymore!")

Wow, I sure feel a bit burnt out on this thing as well....too much time spent in this chair. I'll get the effects folder together ASAP.

Looking forward to your collaboration on the finishing touches here!
And G.S. - no promises, but let me see if I can somehow get you a decent background image from this thing for the panel you may be working on....don't get too far into it until I have success or failure in this endeavor, if I can get a good bitmap for the background the gauge placement will be different.

Thanks again RD and Groundsquirrel for your interest and collaboration, and thanks to the rest of you for any interest in my waspy monster, and thanks for your patience and understanding if this all takes a week longer than I figured!

EDIT: Just checked the date of my first post on this thing...four and a half months on this BUGger!

and then....

Post by groundsquirrel » Thu Mar 06, 2008 3:20 am

Yeah.....you know it's going to be bad when there are five black Suburbans with blacked out windows and blacked out chrome and blacked out g-men standing next to them. They were so blacked out I was about to black out....y'know whut ah meen? Well, this aint no time for fear and I was feeling it big....I mean huge fear, like a great big a** bear is chasing your tail down. I went on and pulled into my parking spot, hmmmmm-I thought to myself-must not be in trouble, boys like this would take the boss' parking spot if they were in one of those chase the citizen reality game show modes. As I hopped out of my Airracer (cleverly disguised as a real car to cut down on the tickets) the leader stepped over to me and what he said next just chilled me to the bone. First thing he said was "Mr. Groundsquirrel, the boss sends his regards and says 'if he sees one more newspaper story about some confounded flying car...he's gonna assign me a Prius from the motor pool'". The only thing I can figure is that I musta blasted by some idiot reporter one night during a drag race. I always keep her at around 30% so the poor victims think they have a chance...then about two thirds of the way down the strip, they see a twenty foot roman candle go by so fast it's stripping the chrome off their doorhandles........God, I love night drag racing. Anyway, I was next informed that a very special aircraft was going to need some premium hangar space (this is the part where all my projects and friends and customers alike get their machines placed in all weather trials) for which I would be eternally grateful to allow the government to avail itself of my workshop and skills...yada...yada...yada. All of a sudden it dawned on me that I hadnt heard a single thing in the sky for the past twenty minutes or so we had been jawing. Believe me friends, northwest Florida is busy airspace. Then I heard a strange whooshing noise getting suddenly louder and louder. Out of the low cloud cover descended? dropped? No, that's not quite right either. It was more like....flying.....yeah.....flying.......flying right at me-YIKES!-
In long slow circles the whatever it was (looked a giant bug to me), came right down on top of us and settled on the ramp not thirty feet from where I stood, but I hardly felt any blast at all....did the laws of nature change while I was at lunch and I was the only one not informed? It didnt matter anyway, next thing I knew there was a technical manual dropped in my hands, which nearly hit the deck it weighed so damm much, and it was quickly looking like Groundsquirrel's Greasy Forearm Aviation Hobby Center and Flight Club is gonna have to go shady for a bit. Gotta go for now, the tall skinny idiot with the weird sunglasses is looking over at me......
Gravity ... it's an Earth thing.

I think I know this skinny guy, with the really weird, geeky sunglasses. He's always with Harks machines. He was there when I did some flight testing with the Maelstrom.

And speaking of the Maelstrom, I was out at Diego Garcia, for some fun with it. It's been a while.

The day was normal, B52s in their spots, F16's, and B2's also. Nice clear day to have some fun with it.
After about an hour of flying around, Tower Command "ordered" me back to base. "Black cat to Tower Command, repeat". TC "Black Cat, you are ordered back to base immediately". Then it hit me, I don't know this voice. "Black Cat to TC, who is this, and why do I have to return, over". "Black Cat, you will be given what you need, when you need it. Return to base, before I send up an escort". An escort, please. I told them roger, and returning to base.

No matter what time it is, or what the world conflict situation is, there is always 20+ bombers and fighters there, including the Stealth bomber.
So when I get close to the island, I can't believe my eyes. The tarmac was clear of all aircraft. What the heck is going on here. I contact Tower Command. "Umm, TC, Black Cat requesting landing instructions." "Black Cat, you are ordered to VTOL, in the center of the armed security forces perimeter". Dam, ordered again. And what's up with the heavy armor I am seeing??? "Understood, land in armed perimeter".
So I land, shut down everything, and get out. Sweat is now pouring down my arm pits, trying to figure out WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!!!

I look around to see my Marine brothers, and these guys are sweating bullets too. And they are on their guns. WTH??? So I stand in front of the Maelstrom, waiting for somebody, anybody, to tell me what the heck is going on. Then a single man steps out of one of the Bradleys, and walks towards me. He's in a Marine Uniform, but nothing showing his rank or anything else. As soon as my mouth opens, his hand, with a single finger, quickly covers his pressed lips. Got it....STFU. He then motions me to follow him, and I do. (I would like to see tomorrow, thank you very much). I followed him to a closed hanger. (wait a minute, these are open hangers, when did they install doors on them. hold on, just THIS one has doors on it. hmmmm).

We walk up to a walk in door, guarded by 2 men, dressed in black. One of them looked like Will Smith, and I giggled. My "guide" turned around, and I almost soiled myself. (note to self, this guy is serious).
He opens the door, and we entered the hanger, and......

..... ummmm, what the heck is that?? And I meant it, as low key as possible.

All I get is, "Hark Industries, is putting trust in you again, to test the WASPV." I almost died laughing my ass off. "You mean to tell me, this thing can FLY ????" Still laughing, I got the slap of all slaps on the back of my head. I guess I deserved it, since I said the same exact thing with the Maelstrom. And it turned out excellent.

My "guide" then hands me a remote, kinda like a key fob. I press the button, and ...... cooooool, the cockpit opens up. Me likey. He then shoves a book, no, dictionary, no, a freaking 50lb binder at me. I touched it, and then let it hit the floor. "I don't need no stinkin' instructions".

About 2 hours later, I taxied out of the hanger, to meet, my "brothers ???". And didn't get any farther than that.

Seems I need to get clearance from the President of Hark Industries, before I can take off with it, and see what she'll do.

At least I got some great shots of it.

(told you all I suck at story telling)... to be continued....or NOT.

Clearance granted RD, it's a pleasure to engage your services again, it's been a while. You aren't required to digest the manual immediately, but you might want to take it with you on your first flight. Make it a long one, and be sure to return to this airport for as many VTOL's as you like today, the entire facility has been secured for as long as you need it so. There is an identical WASPV in a secured hanger not far from you, and Groundsquirrel has been similarly briefed, you will be sharing airspace with him, and the armed landing perimeter will be duplicated at his LZ. My strong suggestion is that eventually the both of you take a flight together and compare notes. You know what you have to do, I look forward to your feedback and customarily superb enhancements.

Tower Command: "Romeo Delta, you have clearance to VTOL when ready."

RD: "Roger that. Advise all personell to move back 100 meters. I don't know what she'll do to me or the others, when I punch it."

TC: "Understood, Romeo Delta." To Fleet Marine Force, "FMF, stand down and give this thing some room. Romeo Delta has been given clearance to VTOL. Watch out down there."

FMF: "Did you say Romeo Delta??? May God help us all".

W.A.S.P.V. update.

Groundsquirrel has undertaken some specialized 'panel and views' work as an extra favour....he's so right - the generic Lear panel did this thing no justice.

RD is a busy man but has logged some hours flight testing and weapons testing, and may be of further service with his expertise regarding weapons FX in FS9, just before release time.

Wing and mid-body art variations from guest artists may or may not be available at release time, she might just ship as 'WASPV SECURITY 04'.

The wings are very paintable, especially with layer work...and there could be some really cool variations as repaints, that would be an honour.

I might just add a strobe to the tail-end of the tail-end....there's already a great Navblu from Tomcatdriver there, and another strobe flashing as emergency lights is just perfect. (I eliminated a few other lights I didn't care for and freed up a few light 'spots' in the .cfg.)

Talk soon...roundabouts the same time G.S. is wrapping up all this awesome panel stuff, I'll do a final package-up, and one last re-rest of everything....zip-up, unzip, retest - UPLOAD!! I figure I'll go Avsim and Simviation. It's pretty cool when I go to Avsim to see how many hits but I've d'loaded from Simviation for years....I love their interface and variety...and it will be a pretty neat thing to see the WASPV on their 'FS9 Misc.' pages!!! 8O :D

oh SU, if you only knew how good it is.

Man, you should have seen the movie I had of it. Key word here is "HAD".

While in my office enjoying the video I had made of my test flights of the WASPV, Hark's guy (the tall, skinny one with neo geeko lenses), just happened to walk in, unannounced. Took me a couple minutes to realize I was on the ceiling, and he was on the floor.

Any ways, when I got down, he questioned me if that was the WASPV. I said "yeah, why??". The only answer I got was four lead slugs in my rig.

Note to self: Put a GPS tracking bug on the creepy dude.
