My System

Post by CessnaPilot09 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:19 am

This is my sytem since upgrading from a lousy eMachine that could barely run the classic Doom series, much less FS9. Now, I could run FSX!!

ASUS M3N78 Pro motherboard

SATA Hard Drive, 250GB

AMD Dual-Core 3.0Ghz Processor, 1MB cache

2GB RAM (3Gigs in three more days!)

nVidia GeForce 9600 GSO, 768MB video memory, 580Mhz

Sony DVD drive

600 Watt Power Supply by Ultra. I know that isn't much but I'll upgrade it soon.

This system runs FS9 with the global visual quality sliders on every tab in display options on next to maximum, 60 frames per second with no problems what so ever. The only time it ever lugs down is when there are overcast skies with a relatively long visibilty. But still, the frame rate only drops to 35, not enough to satisfy me!! It has to be at least 50FPS to satisfy my flying thrist!!

Also, it runs DOOM3 and no problems. Scary game, by the way.

Well..... whatcha think?

Honestly....

You can't see the difference from 25-50 frames per second. As your eyes and gray matter won't accept anything more than 25 FPS.

1080p HD video is run at about 29.97 frames per second (well, at least under 30 that's for sure).

If the sudden jump from 50 to 35 bothers you, lock your frame rates at 35 instead.

I've always disagreed with that and still do. Like I've mentioned before, I personally see a significant difference between 60FPS and 25. Maybe not above 60, but definitely between 25 and 60. After I built my computer over the summer, my expectations have raised, and I satisfyingly play any game below 45FPS now.

For the "old skool" iddqd was the cheat that activated GOD MODE in DOOM and DOOM 2.

IDKFA (all keys and weapons / ammo)

IDBEHOLDL - night vision goggles
IDSPISPOPD - Walk through walls

Hey, back to flight sim talk, alright?

In response to the first few responses, I can definitley tell a major difference from 40fps to 60fps.

We all use different monitors, so this could explain why some may not notice a difference, but I can tell a HUGE difference.

Sorry Ces, I didn't mean to jack your thread... Welcome aboard SurClaro BTW...
What it really comes down to is what your improvement is, perceived or otherwise.
If you can tell the difference and it is an improvement, then welcome to where a lot of us want to be and relish in the fact that you have it.

Perhaps you are noticing the difference only at the big FPS drops? Did you try to lock your frames to around 35? See if you notice anything.

Yep. If I'm flying into a lot of clouds, that's the only thing that can really drop the frame rate considerably, but only down to 35 or so. At this point, the scrolling or panning isn't as smooth and the instruments are less smooth.

By the way.... IDDQD- God Mode IDFA- All weapons IDKFA- All weapons and keys IDBEHOLD......L for light goggles, A for computer map, S for beserk pack, V for invulnerability sphere. There's one more but I can't remember it.

I have beaten Doom, Doom2, and Final Doom all on "Ultra Violence" with no codes. I don't mean to brag, but I'm pretty darn good, eh?

While I'm at it, just picked up FSX today, and I can't run it at all as good as I can FS9. Man, they weren't kidding about it being tough on a tough system!!
