Any reviews?

Post by Mythrilfan » Tue May 23, 2006 8:28 pm

I'm on the verge of buying a 17 inch lcd, but i have only one question: which one is better: the 730BF or the newer 740BF? I have not found any reviews on the 740BF yet, at least not which i would call real reviews. i have seen the specs, by them the newer one is a hair better but i have my doubts as i have only read reviews concerning the older one. I liked what i saw and as it is cheap, i thought i'd go for it. but then i saw that the 740BF is just like 17$ more and thought again. now i don't know what to think any more. help?

If the difference is barely noticeable, then I would go with the cheaper product.
There is no place like 127.0.0.1

I personally would go for the 740BF because it has a faster response time and lower times tend to be better for gaming.

2ms and 4ms do not make a noticable difference and 4ms is already more than enough for an LCD. cheaper? 17 bucks? that is no difference if the latter is better.

thanks for the replies though...

more, please

it doesn't really matter to me...really...
but if its like.... a super crap, then *beep* it...
mine is one of those simple Planar PL1700 17" LCDs. It is quite nice...
The main things you want to look for:
Low price
good looks
the color you want it to be
low radiation output
low power usage
reasonably good specifications
one that will fit your needs
one that is the right size
and then... on it goes...........................

OK, I have read and seen the posts.

The most critical thing about a LCD monitor and gaming, especially FS9, is the timing. You want the gray to gray timing under 3 ms (milli-second) and white to black to white under 6 ms. And yes, you will pay dearly for it money wise. As well as if the timing is higher than the mentioned, you will easily see ghosting while playing.

Myth, how about putting up the links or specs of the 2 you are looking at.

RD

Edit by RD: Myth, I just looked them both up. And the better of the two is the 740BF. However, you will not be a happy camper if you are good at looking at the detail you see on the screen. The gray to gray is is 4ms, and they don't list a white-black-white timing. In my opinion, only the Viewsonic LCD's are the way to go. Sorry man.

2nd Edit by RD: Ooops, I did my first edit before Myth posted below. Well, you get what you pay for.

hey guys: i did say what i wanted. I did not ask about different lcd's, read my original post. I found two lcd's i really want. They are: The samsung 730BF and the samsung 740BF. I do not want any other lcds as they both almost perfectly fit my needs. I have read reviews on the older 730BF, it seems like a miraculously good lcd. i will buy that one if i do not find any good reviews on the 740BF. I repeat: i do NOT want a viewsonic or any other lcd besides the two.

thanks for the replies again, too.

Well, since you have made up your mind on what you want, and just waiting for reviews from the site(s) that have them, our input has no justification.
