Imam Khomeini Intl., Tehran (IKA/OIIE) Scenery / GPS problem

Post by dsk » Tue Jun 01, 2010 5:13 am

I downloaded and installed the scenery for Imam Khomeini Intl., Tehran which replaced Mehrabad in 2007 as the city's new international airport.

Here's the link to the scenery file: http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=126468

The scenery file is basic as far as the terminal building etc, is concerned, but does a lot to include an airport which is missing in FS2004. There are some tidbits such as ladders and GSU's and even apron lights. I've sometimes noticed that the GPU units are dangerously in the way while taxiing to the gate and one must deviate from the taxi path to avoid them. Strange.

The problem comes in while filing an IFR flight plan. Because the airport is not there in FS2004, it does not feature in the Garmin GPS gauge. You can still fly to IKA, but the NAV display in the flight deck and the GPS panel both display a blank. It's like you're flying into nowhere. There is a VOR (IKA) and the flight plan should display IKA as part of the plan, but doesn't.

Vectors are given for either a visual approach to RWY11L or visual approach to RWY29R despite 29R having ILS. In the approach options 29R appears as visual not ILS and the GPS panel has no procedure for approach/missed approach. Nevertheless, in spite of being cleared to a visual approach, it is still possible to fly an ILS approach (freq. 110.30 / IIKA) into IKA. This is included in the scenery file.

If somebody knows how to add this airport in the GPS, with approach procedures, your help will be greatly appreciated.

There's no problem flying out of this airport.
