Alphasim F-4 repaints coming......

Post by rd » Fri May 25, 2012 2:11 am

Here's are a few repaints I've been working on lately. They are already available by some painters. Difference is, mine will be more accurate, and more detailed. No timeline as of now as to when they will be done. But since I'm posting this, it will make me work a bit harder and faster to get them done. :D 8O 8)

Here's pics of the three I'm working on:

Been working on the bottom one for a bit now. Getting closer to being done. Tail is 100% done now, and looking pretty dang good.

Yeah Harky Baby, you better get them before they go bye-bye. Don't know what happened to Alphasim, but if they're gone, these might be too. No telling in this crazy world.

Back at the ranch, I'm done with painting the bottom one as it looks from pics I've found. I've only got one issue to be honest. The tail. I need your input on what looks better. My daffy attempt to weather it, or keep in newly painted. Check the pics. Last 2 will be of the "newly painted" look. All others before them, are my attempts to weathering it.

If anybody wants to Beta run the paint, let me know.

Hey bud, it's looking gorgeous, eh? I like the dirt & stuff on the belly tank. I do like the tail weathered, as it keeps it from looking newish, or helps it blend with the weathering effect on the fuselage, but I'm not crazy about noticing the repeat of the airbrush on the one stroke across the tail. Sorry to be critical but it jumps at me a bit if I'm looking for it. If you want my input, I say keep it weathered, just maybe some brush stroke/ 'spatter' effect, then maybe a little parallel motion blur on the dirt layer would blend it in so nice.

Just downloaded the F-4 for FS9. I remember being pretty awestruck as an 8 year old at how immensely cool the cover art was for the model kit of the Phantom. When you get the versions as you want them I'd love to take them out for a spin. I should be able to get it back to ya with no scratches or dings. Mind you I've never flown one - sooo... =D>

FYI.... I'm doing the "repaints", as clearly described here:

http://www.f4phantom.com/docs/Part1.pdf :Go to the last 10 pages to get the gist of the labels, location, etc

http://www.f4phantom.com/docs/Part2.pdf :This completely dedicated as to where all markings go, and what color and size.

http://www.f4phantom.com/docs/Part3.pdf :This ends it, and starts on the weapons and weapon station labels.

So, um.... yeah,... it's going to be awhile.  :^o

No problem. The one you have will be replaced soon enough. Found some info and pics on the F4 Phantom. I've already got most of it done, and using photo realistic textures in some areas. As well, working on the rivet lines and placement of USMC/NAVY ident and instructions on the fuselage and wings. Also just finished up the AB's on the F4 today. That should be another add on I need to upload soon.

FYI... Here's what I'm dealing with, and I'm going by it very loosely.

Getting closer to the end of this one. Small details to finish up, and she will be ready to go. I've got quite a few photo real textures that I've been to use, where I can. Hopefully I can finish this one up this weekend, and start on the other ones.

Any body know if I ever uploaded the second pic of the F14 paint that I did???

Holee, that's farking awesome - now I see where all those little markings were going. Nice to have that. Very nice. :!:

I don't remember the blue on the F 14, but I've been known to be out of touch, and uh, for having an iffy memory. It's pretty sweet though....

Dang, took a little longer than I expected. Life duties didn't help either, trying to get this one done on time. OK, it is done. Marvel ( ) over the work... or art. I didn't get too overboard with the details I think. Just enough to make it look as realistic as possible.

OK, enough dribbling, here's some finished shots of it. The next project is the top one, VMFA 451 Warlords, in blue. This one should be fun...... :?

OK, found a few issues with the VMFA 531 and corrected them, so it is now officially done as project paint #1. #2 is being done now. And have to fix the nose number already. Painted it as 202, instead of 200. #-o (note to self, pay attention). Here's a teaser shot of it.

The goal is to have all 3 paints done, afterburner done, and new air files done before I turn 50. And yet, keep my post count under 5,000, to which, I'm "Ghandi".

Here's where I am on the second paint, VMFA 451 "WARLORDS".

3 DAYS just on the tail. Still have to add the stars and Eagle in the corner of the rudder (that should be fun...NOT!). Might, just might, have the tail done tonight. Then starts the "Star Banner" on the fuselage. Not really looking forward to that part, since it has a blend/blur curve to it.

EDIT: Tail is done, and corrected the nose numbers. Now for the Stars Banner on the fuselage. :(

Hey RD,

Did a Web search - Found and downloaded the alphasim F4 - I think I have what I need to install it :D - You can consider Me - Patiently Ah-waiting The release of Additional textures - or a Beta Test - If You So Desire ??  =D>

Is the F4 a particular favorite of Your's - The reason I ask is - there a ton of repaints for that Aircraft - From what I have seen of what You have done so far - Your Textures should jump straight to the Front of the Line - as far as personal choice goes !!

Normally I save Militery Aircraft for CFS2 - where I can make them go BANG BANG   - However I have Opened a Special Hangar for Eagarly Awaited Modifications to Anticipated Flight Equipment !! 8) - And the AfterBurners Sound AAwsum .

Bring'em'On !! =D>  - Are We HavinFunYet ??? 8O 8O :D

Johnman

Note : For Hark - I don't know why the word Save is Red - but I tried to change it to Green - and it changed back to Red ?? 8O

Glad you got the free F4 Phantoms, they are awesome. There are some freeware F4's by others, but not modeled as good as these. As for being my favorite... no, second favorite behind the F14 Tomcat. I have been around them forever being an Air Force brat through the '60's to the '80's.

If you have any F14 Tomcats, I have some repaint textures and the best afterburners in the FS2004 downloads. I'll probably paint just these three F4's, and leave it at that.

I'll try and have this one done this weekend, and send it to you to Beta Test. It won't have the new air files or afterburners included. Not 100% done on them.

BTW: You could have gone here to get them: http://forums.surclaro.com/topic19806.html

Good news, and bad news. The model has some serious issues on distortion on the fuselage, so I made some "adjustments", or creative liberation's, to make it work for the star banner on the fuselage. Sorry, no way around it, other than not to include it. That was the bad news. Good news is, I am done with the second paint. I even got the numbers right this time... lol.

I'll start the 3rd paint next weekend. The gray matter upstairs has just about enough of my painting works for the last 4 or so weeks. So I am taking a break this week. :^o :^o

Here's a couple shots of the finished VMFA 451 WARLORDS.

OK, back to the painting. Starting on the second one, VMFA 232 Red Devils. Should have this one done fairly quickly, like by the 13th of July.

Hopefully I'll everything all packaged up nice and neatly and uploaded on the 14th. This would be all 3 paints, the new afterburners, and new air file.

See ya'll soon.

Hey RD,

Looking forward to the package - They should be AWSOME !! 8O 8O :D

IF You feel like throwing a Bone - Don't forget Your Beta Testers =D> =D>

I can imagine - trying to get that Banner to go around those Intakes - and over the Fuselage - would be a distortion NIGHTMARE - even if the Geometry is Perfect !! #-o

Might be the Right Time for a Clinic - or Tutorial - on Texturing !!! :D :D

Texturing can make or break an Add On !! :^o #-o :D

Taking a little longer than expected to get where I wanted to be on this girl. She is coming along nicely, but, honestly, I hate/love making corrections. The tail is finally done by pics of the real thing, not aborted attempts/uploads by others. Nose is done, as well as a few other small things. Next for the next couple of days, is the ident on the fuselage and rear. She WILL be done this week, and everything else I think, is still good to go this coming weekend.

Done with the VMFA 232 Red Devils... whew. Alot of hair pulling to find the textures to paint the small stuff. But I found and painted them.

Now then, here's the breakdown of the package:

3 new F4 paints.

New afterburners.

New air files.

Working on including a carrier ops panel that is useable in FSX and FS9 as a standalone. Meaning, you don't have to do anything except move the folder.

As soon as I get the panel permissions, I'll upload the package. If I don't, then it will be an extra day to make the needed changes and adjustments to the whole package.

Either way.... you will need to read the read-me that I have for this package. Shouldn't be too long, but needs to be read.

Gotta give a shout out to another Marine on SOH, fxsttcb, or Don. He gave me permission to use his panel with my modifications. This is great news for everybody.

Thanks Mel, its been fun, and a PITA, painting them. This should be a great package for the fans of the F4 Phantom. :D
