FSX.CFG Pathway

Post by jaeger52 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 10:15 pm

I used to know the default location, but it's been so long since I've had any need to go there and now I've forgotten.

Requesting a Sticky of the default pathway for everyones convenience. :D

I don't have FSX, but I do believe it'll be in a similar location for Windows Vista.

C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9

You'll need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders. Do this by going to Windows Explorer (Computer, Documents, anywhere). Press the Alt Key. A toolbar should pop up. Press Tools -> Folder Options.

Under the View tab, there is an option for Hidden Files and Folders and under that, two radio buttons. Click the second one, which should say Show Hidden Files and Folders.

-----------------------------------------
Windows Vista:
C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9
C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\ <username> \Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
C:\Documents and Settings\ <username> \Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

Here is an Addon for FSX that I just stumbled upon in the FSX Utilities Section here at Surclaro, entitled fsxcfgremover.zip

http://www.surclaro.com/fsx-utilities-a ... dateD.html

Flight Sim FSX Utilities add-ons: ~Intro This is for people who need to delete their FSX.cfg file but cant find it or dont want to find it. For future referance the FSX.cfg is in the folder Vista C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftFSX and XP C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMEApplication DataMicrosoftFSX ~Instructions For Vista Users: Place the fsxvista.bat into your Main User folder (Named by your user name; Actual Place C:UsersUSERNAME) Run the file (Double Click, or right click and select Open) For XP Users: Place in your documents folder (Name My Documents; Actual Place C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMEMy Documents Run the file (Double Click, or right click and select Open) ~Legal These files are the work of Me, Ian Bertolacci. They are not to be edited (which is why the are read only) due to the problems associated with bad people editing batch files I am not responsible for any damage to your or any other computer as a result of you using these files, not that any damage should occure. You may upload the unedited FSX.CFG Remover.zip file to any other site you wish, but must not take credit for the file.

I haven't tried it, but hopefully it will come in handy for someone. Anyone who does try it, please report your findings here. :D

My current OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. Can't find my FS.CFG anywhere. Any help and an updated STICKY would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mel, I've got to my User file, but don't see AppData. Must be a hidden file, but I've forgotten how or where to open hidden files.

When doing the search, you have to click to include hidden files and folders.

If you are running FSX in windows 8/8.1 click start then run and paste this %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX in and it will take you straight to your FSX.CFG file and it will not be hidden.
