For your convenience...
Step-by-step instructions.

READ ATTACHMENTS FOR STEP 1, 2 AND 3.
(Hmm, the software put my attachments in backwards order. Go in order, 1, 2, 3. )

WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED, READ HERE FOR THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

STEP 4: Go to this link:
http://forums.surclaro.com/ftopic19025.html

Bookmark it if you have a tendency to forget. This is the locations for FS9.CFG and FSX.CFG in both Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista.

STEP 5:
Using the information you've just acquired from the above linked topic, go to My Computer. Go to your C drive.
Go to Documents and Settings
Click on your USERNAME. If this is a premanufactured computer and you are using the original account, it may be "OWNER"
Go to Application Data
Go to Microsoft
Go to FSX
Locate the FSX.cfg file.
Delete it.

When you start FSX again, the file will be regenerated. All FSX settings will be lost, but it should possibly help make the joystick work.

STEP 1:

Open My Computer. Press TOOLS
Press FOLDER OPTIONS
step2.jpg
STEP 2: Press the VIEW tab.
step3.jpg
STEP 3: Scroll down, click the radio button for "SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS", and uncheck "HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES"

You did it wrong...
Nothing gets plainer than that.

Do you see an Application Data folder? Did you go to the Microsoft folder? Is there an FSX folder?

Unless you want to set up TeamViewer and schedule a time when one of us can connect to your computer and find the FSX.cfg file.

TF, I know you only want to help, but this is the absolute. If he isn't smart enough to figure this out... I don't want the rest of the board dragged down.
It's entertaining to say the least.
But sometimes you got to pull yourself up by your own boot straps.
I'm about ready to call for a certified copy of a birth certificate. And alert every teacher in the Jersey area, someone has slipped the gap.

This guy must have one weird FSX install and/or PC setup, if he cant find the fsx.cfg on a straight search, then he's taking us for a ride, this is too bad to be true.........

I suggest a padded cell for his own safety #-o

Post by groundsquirrel » Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:53 am

Not necessarily. It could have to do with his security levels or permissions on his machine. It is also possible that he has one or more unique trojans causing file hides or other mischief. Or he could just be a clueless 'tard, but somehow I doubt that in light of his tenacity.

Even so GS, but even a simple search should have found the file concerned, how can the search routine fail, unless he does not have fsx.

God forbid he doesn't have FSX.

God help him if he took us for a ride

and God help US if he really can't find it.

I'm betting that he found it finally, and everything is good with the universe.

If not, and he played us, he won't need the shuttle to land on the moon.

Well guess what, sir, that file is very important. It contains all the settings to your Flight Simulator configuration.

Now then, you have not answered my question. Have you looked through those folders? Do those ACTUAL folders actually exist?

If you can't cooperate and explain your issue correctly, then you might as well go through the time-consuming process of reinstalling it yourself.

Right.. Listen to me you Numbskull, you say this file can't be that important, well let me put it in simplified terms that even you can understand........... A BODY WITHOUT A HEAD, CANNOT FUNCTION,.........

FSX WITHOUT THE CFG FILE, WILL NOT RUN !

So dont come running in here with your diapers round your ankles, throwing your toys outa your pram, and telling us we are wrong

If you have FSX installed, you have the fsx.cfg file on your system....
If you dont have the the fsx.cfg file on your system, you dont have FSX installed.....

AM I MAKING MYSELF CLEAR SO FAR ?

NOW.......Go back and study what everyone here knows to be right, and has told you in so many ways, find the *beep* file, delete it, and dont come back until you have done it ....................... SIMPLE !

No YOU listen up.....

The freaking file is there, your either too stupid to find it, or your recovering from a lobotomy. I'd plead the first, if I was you.

Otherwise....... let's try this.....

You said you have FS2004/FS9...RIGHT??? If so, then I challenge you to find your " fs9.cfg " on your system. If you do find the folder for it, then go back one page/step, and look for the FSX folder. It should be right below the " FS9 " folder titled " FSX ". That is the folder that has your "fsx.cfg" file. But.... It may just say "fsx". If you do happen to find it, right click on it, and open it with notepad. The entries should look like the pic below.

If you tell me you don't have, or cannot find the "fs9.cfg" on your system, then you are in a world of hurt.

FS9 and FSX will not run without that file, just as much, your computer will not run with out a CPU or a Graphics card.

*beep* me off, and I will lock this down.

RD

Nah, I won't lock it down, you're too much fun.

(C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\)

here is the code if you XP guys would like to see that it works.

EDIT; JUST TESTED AND FIXED CODE!!!!

Code: Select all

@echo off
Cd..
cd Application Data\Microsoft\FSX
del fsx.cfg
pause
NOTE!!!
I am not responsible any damage that this program cause to your computer, not that it should.
