A MUST HAVE FOR ALL DC-3/C-47 LOVERS!

Post by jaeger52 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:26 pm

GOOGLE: FSX Basler BT-67 Base Pack V2

"The BT-67 is a general-purpose turbo-prop conversion of the classic Douglas
DC-3/C-47. Replacing the original base pack, V2 has a new panel layout, some new
gauges, and new flight dynamics. Three models and paints are included: ski-
equipped "Polar 5" of the Alfred Wegener Institute, "158" of the Royal Thai Air
Force, and AC-47T "Fantasma" of the Fuerza Aerea Colombiana. Note, no 2D panel
and aliased default sound only. By Daniel Fuernkaess (paints and research),
Manfred Jahn (models), Alexander M. Metzger (flight dynamics and documentation)
and Hansjoerg Naegele (gauges, animation and documentation).

Minimum system-requirements: FSX SP2. Recommended: FSX Gold Edition or
Acceleration.

The Basler BT-67 is a fixed-wing aircraft produced by Basler Turbo Conversions of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It is built on a retrofitted Douglas DC-3 airframe, with modifications designed to improve the DC-3's serviceable lifetime. The conversion includes fitting the airframe with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67R turboprop engines, lengthening the fuselage, strengthening the airframe, upgrading the avionics, and making modifications to the wings' leading edge and wing tip. (Wikipedia)"

Cool Discoveries (So far):

. Self Installer (worked well for me where others have not)
. Beautiful 3D Virtual Cockpit
. Windscreen Wipers
. Opening Cockpit Side Windows
. Reworked Radio Stack (Autopilot Settings at top of stack)
. Beautifully Rendered Analog Gauges. No glass cockpit gauges!
. Exceptional readme's and historical documentation

Dislikes (So far):

. No 2D Panel
. GPS is too small to be of any use (Still investigating) UPDATE: A better view of the GPS can be achieved by right clicking on the windscreen, then hover mouse over Cockpit menu and left clicking on GPS from the subsequent pop-out menu. It's a bit troublesome, especially if you need the GPS at a glance, or in a hurry. It would have been better if the author's had provided for clickable pop up gauges.
. Needs pop-up or pop-out gauges via mouse click (Still investigating)
. No enlarged GPS available in the drop down VIEWS menu. (Still investigating) See GPS Above
. Default Engine Sound File is the FSX Default King Air, but can be slaved to any other (FSX) aircraft sound file, or downloadable sound files for FSX. Instructions included in the documentation.

This airplane is just too nice to be ignored in spite of its very few limitations. On a 1 - 10 scale for a freeware product I would easily rate this one at 7-1/2. UPDATE: Upgraded my rating to an 8+ I would like to give it a better rating, but I've just stumbled across this aircraft and haven''t had enough hours in the left seat to discover all of its secrets.

I'm interested in your feed back and especially about new discoveries in this wonderful work of art for FSX. Hooray for it's creators!

Give it a try and post your findings, likes and dislikes here.

Mel,

What was the nature of the problem you ran into? Virus? System crash? I'm sorry for any troubles to your system related to this aircraft. I've never known you to so quickly refuse a great aircraft. I'm mystified at the nature of the problem. I downloaded this aircraft from: http://www.rikoooo.com/en/downloads/viewdownload/52/570. Without knowing the exact details of the problems you encountered, I still wish that you would give it another shot. I had no problems with downloading the aircraft and installing it. I just activated the self installer and voila! Instant success! For the time being, it's all I've been flying, trying to discover its many secrets. It also comes with three nicely done PDF files. This is apparently a real life upgrade being done to an old DC-3/C-47 air frames by a Canadian company.

Get back to me, won't you?

Bruce
